Developing Citizens in Dayton's West Side

Welcome to the Dakota Center's Homepage

History
A community center opened in May 1965, its original location was the old St. Emerick Social Hall at 645 Dakota Street. In 1968, a fire forced the Dakota Center to relocate to 408 S. Conover Street using the Holy Name Church facility. The Dakota Center moved to 238 S. Paul Laurence Dunbar Street in 1976 where building renovations were made which allowed the center to expand its programs. Dakota Center has been serving the community for the past 37 years and has relocated to a new 1.7 million dollar facility at 33 Barnett Street, Dayton Ohio, 45407.

"We are building lives through tasks with vision."
Fr. Phillip C. Hoelle, S.M.

Mission
The Dakota Center aims to enrich the “quality of Life” and empower the residents to reach their potential within the MacFarlane and surrounding neighborhoods by providing first class programs and services in collaboration with other centers, organizations, businesses, and government agencies.

Vision
Our vision is to be identified as an effective full service community center.
We intend to lessen the divergent social pressure on youth of inner-west Dayton and its periphery by helping to fortify the family nucleus and providing sound advice and guidance during the critical maturing process.
Our ultimate goal is to assist our clients in becoming self-reliant, productive citizens in order that they may perform at their highest potential.
