FREE SUMMER CAMP PLANNED FOR 50 WEST DAYTON YOUTHS
Sharon Barrett-Mitchell, Dakota Center Executive Director announces three two-week session summer camps. The annual summer camp is available to both boys, girls aged seven through twelve. It is limited to 50 participants, each of which may attend more than one session. "The summer camp is available at no charge because of the financial difficulty for many for parents.," Ms. Mitchell said.
Summer Camp is scheduled to begin June 14, with two daily sessions. Breakfast, lunch and a snack and activities including a Wednesday swimming program at the Northwest Recreation Center are planned. Each session will offer one field trip per week. Ms. Mitchell has arranged for 10-15 volunteers in addition to the Center's regular staff to supervise the campers. The two daily sessions are from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Reading, math, computer training, arts and crafts, reading circle, community gardening and open recreation are a few of the other activities planned. Learning in a fun-filled environment is one of the Dakota Center Summer Camp's most successful features.
"We are still seeking additional funding to make free camp a reality, but we are confident our generous supporters will come through as they have in the past," Ms Mitchell said.
